Michigan Mushrooms LLC began in 2008 as small-scale outdoor mushroom operation in Alpena, MI. We began producing naturally grown edible mushrooms such as oysters, shiitakes and king trumpet in a small grow-tent. Soon, our humble tent evolved into a greenhouse and a lab, where we increased production to provide for farmer’s markets, restaurants and grocers. We are working on creating chaga and other wild crafted items from our region. All of our products are sustainably harvested and are all-natural, no chemicals added. Our goal is to provide these precious foods and medicines to those who otherwise do not have access to them. We are a husband and wife team who both grew up enjoying the woods of Northern Michigan. Sustainability and good foraging practices are of the utmost importance to us. For all herbs we follow the 1 in 10 rule (harvesting 1 plant for every 10 we see). We tread lightly and treat the forest with deep respect, always giving thanks. Many of the herbs and mushrooms we pick come from our own backyard or within a few miles of it, so it is in our rational best interest to preserve the wonderful bio-diversity we have been blessed to live amongst. There is also a deep emotional and spiritual longing to nurture our woodland home as if it were our own child. Thank you to our customers and supporters, you all make our dreams possible!
