~ Monroe Family Organics ~
Started in 2011, Monroe Family Organics is a certified organic farm producing mostly vegetables along with some fruits, pastured pigs, and pastured chickens. Located in Alma, MI on the corner of M-46 and Ennis Road, Fred and Michele Monroe produce vegetables for their local markets and CSA customers.
Before this Fred raised vegetables for some of the local farmers' markets while in high school. After this he attended Michigan State University to study horticulture and agribusiness. While he was there, Fred had a series of part-time job experiences that included interning at a very large CSA in Illinois called Angelic Organics, and also at the MSU Student Organic Farm. After graduating, Fred and Michele moved to Northern Ohio where Fred worked as a manager growing vegetables for high end restaurants for six seasons. Then when Jane, our first child, was born in 2010 we decided to move back home to the Alma area to start our own farm and be closer to family.
We are now entering our third season, and things are going really well so far! Both the farm and our family continue to grow. We had our second daughter, Jessamine, last June, and we continue to add more crops, more animals, and more CSA drop-offs to what we do at the farm. We appreciate the enthusiasm and support that we have received from the community, and are glad that we have found our niche in the area as a source for local high quality vegetables.
